This ledger artwork depicts Ninepipes, the renowned Salish buffalo hunter, horse raider, and warrior for whom the Ninepipes Museum is named. He is shown riding at full speed, leading stolen horses as pictographic Blackfeet riders chase him across the plains. In the background, four Blackfeet-style tipis mark the enemy camp. Above Ninepipes, is an 1800s ledger-style indicator of identity using a line above a person and a symbol relating to their Indian name. Above him is a peace pipe surrounded by nine red dots representing his Indian name and the nine horse raids and war battles he fought in against the enemy tribe. This piece honors Ninepipes’ legacy as a fierce protector, a skilled hunter, and a strong figure in Salish history.

For archival display, avoid placing the glazing directly against the print.
